Carer Gateway

Carer Gateway is an Australian Government program providing free services and support for carers.

If you care for a family member or friend with disability, a medical condition, mental illness, or who is frail due to age, then Carer Gateway can help you.

The Australian Government works with a range of community care and carer organisations across Australia, known as Carer Gateway service providers, to deliver services to carers no matter where they live in Australia.

How Carer Gateway can help

Carer Gateway provides many services to support carers in their caring role, including:

Information / helpline

  • You can call Carer Gateway on 1800 422 737 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm AEST) and select option 1 to speak with your local Carer Gateway service provider.
  • Carer Gateway has a phone Counselling Service that provides counselling and resources to support carers. Professional counsellors talk one-on-one with you about the concerns you have and how you feel about your carer role. For more information or to book a phone counselling appointment you can call Carer Gateway on 1800 422 737 and select option 2 to speak to our phone counselling team.
  • You can use this form to request a call back from your local Carer Gateway provider at a time that suits you or request contact by email.
